John currently serves as an ATC Specialist on the FAA Emerging Technologies Team. Currently, he is responsible for developing and coordinating policy and procedure as they pertain to air traffic operations involving UAS. He also serves on several international groups related to UAS integration. Previously, he served as the FAA’s Obstruction Evaluation Group Manager and as the Acting Manager of the Emerging Technologies Team.
Prior to working with the FAA, John was an air traffic controller in the United States Army for 22 years. He served in numerous leadership positions including multiple tours as an air traffic control facility manager; Chief of Aviation Operations Instruction at the Army Aviation Leadership Academy, and as a Army Regional Representative to the FAA.
John holds a master’s degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with specializations in Aviation Management and Operations. He’s currently pursuing an additional master’s degree in International Relations with Webster University.
